Frank Edward Buchanan Jr., 87, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in Fredericksburg.
He was born to the late Dorothy Dix and Frank E. Buchanan Sr. on Sept. 21, 1925, in Springfield, Mass.
Mr. Buchanan served 24 years in the U.S. Navy and retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after 17 years of service as a field service technical representative.
He was a member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, Warwick Masonic Lodge 336, Scottish Rite Newport News Bodies, and Khedive Shrine Temple, where he participated in the mini Model T unit, and of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 172.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne E. Buchanan; and his grandson, Marvin Andrew Winford.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Jayne Chmelarsky and her husband, Joe, of King George; his sister, Beverly Sandberg of Malden, Mass.; his brother, William H. Buchanan of Cambridge, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Sheely Ann Lester and Stacey Lynn Palivoda, both of King George; and five great-grandchildren, Mac Collier, Lee Palivoda, Katelynn Palivoda, Joiella Lester and Andrew Palivoda.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, in Newport News. A service will be held at noon Monday, March 4, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. William G. Davidson, followed by burial with military honors in Peninsula Memorial Park.
