When we moved to Fredericksburg in 1981, we immediately subscribed to The Free Lance-Star, where I met Ed Jones and other fine employees. It has been a productive friendship. Nicholas Cadwallender is right to describe Ed's work as "with integrity, fairness, and compassion" ["Jones retiring as editor of FLS," Feb. 26]. Let's add humility and friendliness. Our community has profited greatly by having a quality newspaper recognized by its many awards.
Many times I have called Ed Jones to thank him for his moral leadership through his editorials. His comments about his cats and his cars have added a nice personal touch as well. Thank you, Ed, for enriching my life for 32 years. May God richly bless your coming years.
