Raise 'import tax' and buy American goods

The way to bring overseas jobs home seems quite simple: Raise the import tax. Not a jump of 2 percent but a meaningful amount like 25 percent to 50 percent.

This would give American manufacturers a fighting chance at selling their wares to import-dominated giant corporations such as Wal-Mart and Target.

Americans do not seem to realize that buying cheap imported goods puts their next-door neighbors out of a job. The powers that be do not seem to realize that by allowing cheap imports in huge numbers, they kill our manufacturing base. Without a strong manufacturing base, we probably would have lost World War II.

We should try to remember to buy American-made products whenever possible and not support import-dominated businesses.
