Oliver D. Snyder

Oliver Dean "O.D." Snyder, 88, of Salisbury, N.C., passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Snyder was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Rowan County, N.C., to the late Carrie Mae Poole Snyder and Lee R. Snyder. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater and was at the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Snyder worked for Southern Railways as a machinist for 37 years.

He was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for 74 years.

Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Beck Snyder; three sons, Arthur "Art" L. Snyder and wife Cheryl of Spotsylvania County; Dean L. Snyder and wife Genie of Boiling Springs, N.C.; and Steven "Steve" Roy Snyder and wife Linda of Morganton, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Arthur "Artie" K. Snyder and wife Sherri of Goldvein; Brian L. Snyder and wife Tiffanie of Mineral; Bradley L. Snyder and wife Stephanie of Spotsylvania; William D. Snyder of Rock Hill, S.C.; Deana Snyder Lee and husband Michael of York, S.C.; Andrew N. Snyder and Amy Lynn Snyder, both of Morganton; and five great-grandchildren, Anna Snyder, Evan Snyder, Tyler Snyder, Nathan Snyder and James Lee.

A visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Multi-Ministry Building of Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer.

A funeral will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Oakdale Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Richard Gross. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
