Mary T. Ramsey

Mary Talley "Sable" Ramsey, a longtime resident of King George County, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield.

She was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Sharon, Pa., to eastern European immigrants George Sabol of Yugoslavia and Anna Bialka of Poland.

An R.N. by profession, she served the U.S. Army as a cadet nurse at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. It was there she met U.S. Army Lt. Robert V. Talley. They were married and, in 1953, moved to the Navy base at Dahlgren, where Bob was employed as civilian personnel director.

Sable was an instructor in the nursing assistant program at the Stafford Vocational School from 1968 until 1974, and was employed as a private duty nurse. She also served as a hospice and hospital volunteer.

She was preceded in death by husbands Robert V. Talley and Larry R. Ramsey; grandson Sean Eastwood; and special friend N. Richard Mountjoy.

Survivors include son Robert V. Talley Jr. and wife Joan; daughter JoAnne T. Eastwood and husband Joe; grandsons Matthew Eastwood and wife Julie, Justin Eastwood and wife Naomi and Aaron Eastwood and wife Catie; eight great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Joseph, Thomas, Katheryn, Andrew, Liam, Ian and Talley; stepsons Larry Jr. and Bill Ramsey; and Joan Talley's children, Tim, Karen and Laura.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lucy Corr Village for their devoted care. A service to celebrate Sable's life will be held at a later date.

In keeping with her generous spirit, she donated her body to the Virginia Anatomical Society for research.
