Jessamine Coates "Jep" Colbert, 95, of Fredericksburg passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at Hughes Home.
Mrs. Colbert was born and raised in Raleigh, N.C., and graduated from Peace College in 1936. She moved to Washington, D.C., shortly thereafter to accept a job with the Internal Revenue Service.
She was a longtime resident of the Beverly Hills section of Alexandria before moving to Fredericksburg in 1991. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, an avid reader and seamstress, enjoyed knitting and embroidery and loved to play bridge. She also enjoyed painting china.
Mrs. Colbert was a member of the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary and a member of Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Colbert (Vicki); daughter Jan Marcos (David); sister Fran Meyer; grandchildren Jennifer Hale (Lee), Kim Gordon, Curtis Colbert and Chris Colbert (Cinnamon); and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Blair Colbert.
A private graveside service will be held at Quantico National Cemetery.
