James L. Baker

James Louis Baker, 85, formerly of Stafford County, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in San Diego.

James served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He then served in the Army Reserve Special Forces, Air Borne Group, retiring as a captain. He worked for the CIA, Air America and the DEA for more than 35 years, receiving numerous awards and citations. After retirement, he volunteered for 22 years for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and wrote for the U.S.C.G. monthly magazine.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, June; daughter Kathleen Pianka of Stafford; two sons, Kenneth Baker (Carolyn) of West Chester, Pa., and Philip Baker of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Cullen and Kelly Baker of West Chester; sister-in-law Joan Baker of Falmouth; former wife, Jacqueline Jentzen-Baker; and nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Baker and Gladys Johnson Baker-Chewning; daughter Donna Baker; and brother Lawrence Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Quantico National Cemetery, led by Father Mark Moretti.
