Russell Thompson

Russell Elwood Thachter Thompson, 88, of Culpeper County went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr. Thompson was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and had attended the Presbyterian School of Christian Education. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Stephens Ministries and Eley's Ford Baptist Church, and was a past commander of the VFW. He was a lieutenant commander of the Sea Cadets and a Boy Scout leader. He retired from dentistry at the VA Hospital in Richmond.

Survivors include son Robert E. Thompson; daughters Sheryl L. Harm (John) and Janet S. Helton; brothers Quintin S. Thompson and John Wanzel (Joyce); sisters Elizabeth Miller, Alice Nastasi and Jacqueline Desper (Joseph); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by wife Ruby Martha Thompson; daughter Ann Darlene Thompson; and sister Wilda Silverman.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Eley's Ford Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his name to Eley's Ford Baptist Church Building Fund, 10401 Elys Ford Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
