"I'm not religious I just love the Lord"

John Francis Barrett Jr., 76, of Stafford County went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

John was a member and deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. He graduated in 1955 from Stafford High School. John served his country in the Air Force at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for four years. He retired from the Deacon Road VDOT. He was an avid NASCAR and Redskins fan. He enjoyed many years of antiquing with his wife and loved to spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John F. Barrett Sr.; his mother, Florence Courtney Barrett; brother Lewis; and sisters Florence Hall and Mary Spitler.

Loved ones left to celebrate his life include his devoted wife of 52 years, Frances; sons John (Martha), Robert (Wendy), William "Bill" (Amanda Lawrence), Wayne (Lisa), Steve (Valerie); his youngest son, Dean, who devoted several years of caregiving until John's passing; daughters Lynn Barrett Stone (John) and Susan Barrett (Charles); brother Teddy; sisters Margaret (Bob Hein), Bobby (Dr. Harry Crisp), Grace (Bill Dahmke) and Judy (Jim Poulin); 19 adored grandchildren; seven loved great-grandchildren; and special nephews and nieces.

His service will be private. A future celebration of life will be announced.

Memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
