Theodore Steckler

Theodore "Ted" M. Steckler, 71, of Stafford passed peacefully Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at home surrounded by family.

He will live in the memory of Irene Steckler, wife of 50 years; two sons, Michael Steckler of Leesburg, and Frank Steckler and his wife Mary Cortez Steckler of Dallas; one daughter, Patricia Steckler of Stafford; three grandchildren, Lena, Alex and Landry; two brothers, Fred Steckler and wife Ruth Steckler, and Mark Steckler and wife Mary Steckler; sisters Marian Cerney, and Sylvia Dean and brother-in-law, Richard Dean; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by father Hal Fulton of El Paso, Texas, mother Veronica Steckler of Dickinson, N.D., and brother, Dale Steckler also of Dickinson, N.D.

Ted retired from the Veterans Administration in 2009. He served in the U.S. Army, and afterward was a lifelong student of military history. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, hiking and fishing. Ted was an avid reader. He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He belonged to St. William of York Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, at St. William of York, Stafford. Interment will be held at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery.
