Ralph E. Johnson

Ralph Euclid Johnson, 69, of Colonial Beach went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Fredericksburg.

Ralph was born July 21, 1943, in Washington, D.C., the third child of the late Aubrey and Wilma Johnson.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He then graduated from the University of Maryland in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation he worked for a furniture company in Tennessee, met and married his first wife and became the father of Ralph James Johnson. Ralph worked in various professions such as heavy equipment operation, real estate and antique dealing.

In May 1993, he came to Maryland, met and married Ella Wells and became co-owner of Timberneck Nursery in Owings, Md. They ran the nursery together until 2002, when they retired to Colonial Beach.

After retirement, Ralph started a new endeavor, doing whatever was needed at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach. The following year he became a member of St. Mary's and served two terms on the vestry, was senior warden twice, and head of maintenance, finance, stewardship and Columbarium committees.

Ralph was a kindhearted servant of the Lord, a loving husband and a patient friend who never met a stranger. In addition, he was an avid yard sale patron, and loved his home, reading science fiction and detective stories, working in the yard, taking trips with his wife and soul mate and serving his beloved church.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Ronnie and Aubrey.

Survivors include his wife, Ella; son Ralph Jr. and his wife, Lisa; grandchildren Madison and Matthew; sister Brenda Plum; stepsons Allan and James Brady; and nephews Tim and Dave Plum.

A Eucharist of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Colonial Beach, with the Rev. Ron Okrasinski officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Inurnment will be private at a later date.
