Donald A. Tyrrell Jr.

Donald A. "Don" Tyrrell Jr., 68, of Bumpass, Lake Anna, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at University of Virginia Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Don spent his early years in Birmingham Bloomfield, Mich., and moved to Virginia in 1972. In 2002 he retired from Reynolds & Reynolds after 32 years as a systems solution consultant. He and his wife, Libby, moved to their lake home, where he spent his retirement enjoying Lake Anna, fishing, wood turning and target shooting.

Don was a member of ACCA Temple in Richmond, the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in Alexandria and Elks Lodge 758 in Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Tyrrell; a sister, Sue Mullins (Mitch); nieces Diane Jannelle and Amy Satterfield; nephews David Sisson, Jeff Mullins, Marc Hamaker and Bill Hamaker; several great-nieces and -nephews; and Chevy Cat. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald A. Tyrrell Sr. and Josephine Finucan Tyrrell of Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg.

The family would like to thank the medical personnel and nursing staff at U.Va. MICU and the Emily Couric Cancer Center for their care and support of Don and his family during the final months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rikki's Refuge, Box 1357, Orange, Va. 22960; or to a charity of one's choice.
