Richard J. Hawkins

Richard J. "Bootsie" Hawkins, 72, of Stafford County died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Retreat Hospital in Richmond.

Mr. Hawkins served as a trustee emeritus at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Stafford.

He was a dedicated and loving person.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ethel M. Hawkins of Stafford; three daughters, Felicia Washington (Larry) of Manassas; Yvonne Hawkins and Tammy Hawkins, both of Stafford; a stepdaughter, Patricia Barnes (Maurice) of Brandywine, Md.; two sons, Richard E. Hawkins of Culpeper and Kevin Hawkins (Victoria) of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters, Madeline Brown (Edward), Gertie Green and Ethel "Dolly" Jackson (Eugene), all of Stafford; three brothers, Robert Hawkins Jr., Ralph Hawkins Sr. (Janice) and David Hawkins (Shirley), all of Stafford; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie V. Nelson; and one adopted brother, Eddie T. Allen.

A public viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, May 11, with a viewing one hour prior to the service, at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 395 Mount Olive Road, Stafford. The Rev. George A. Langhorne will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, conducted by Masonic Lodge 293 of Triangle.
