Antonia Ruggieri, 93, of Spotsylvania County died Monday, May 6, 2013, at Hughes Home.
Mrs. Ruggieri was a native of San Miguel, Italy, and, at the age of 35, moved to Norwalk, Conn., where she worked at Norwalk Hospital. She had resided in the Fredericksburg area for the last 26 years.
Mrs. Ruggieri was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and volunteered at the St. Matthew Thrift Shop. She also volunteered for the American Diabetes Association. Mrs. Ruggieri, fondly referred to as "Nonna," was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Ruggieri; and daughter-in-law Mary Beth Ruggieri.
Survivors include her son, David Ruggieri (Jeannine) of Spotsylvania; three grandchildren, Michael Ruggieri (Lori) of Myrtle Beach, N.C., Sarah Ruggieri and daughter Elizabeth of Spotsylvania, and Matthew Ruggieri of Myrtle Beach; and numerous other family members.
A rosary will be said at
A Mass of Christian celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 10, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Matthew Thrift Store, St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8200 Robert E. Lee Drive, Spotsylvania, VA 22551; or to the American Diabetes Association, Memorials Program Processing Center, Box 11454, Alexandria, Va. 22312.
