Flora Jones

Flora Juanita Evelyn Moore Jones, 88, got her wings at Wilburn Gardens in Fredericksburg on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was born to Bennie Edgar Moore and America Elizabeth Hester Moore in Haywood County, Tenn, on Nov. 8, 1924.

Flora, Grandmother, Grandma "Florda" was a true Southern lady with a strong will. She first and foremost loved her Lord and enjoyed church gatherings, Bible studies and good old gospel hymn singing. She loved adventure, learning to water- ski while not knowing how to swim and driving a motorcycle back in the day when women did not do those things. She was a talented artist who loved to paint and draw, a gardener who loved to plant flowers and take care of the birds and an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Most of all, she loved her family and friends, and they loved her, as did anyone who met her. She will be missed.

She is survived by her two sons, Barry (Peg) of Fredericksburg and Brent (Catherine) of Houston; four grandchildren, Benjamin Michael (Kristi), Benjamin Martin, Jacqueline and Barbara; three step-grandchildren, Michael (Becky), Joseph and Jennifer (Kevin); one great-grandchild, Katherine; and five step-great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Audrey, Cole, Robert and Molly; two sisters, Peggy Hartman and Jessie Hopper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Ben "BM"; and a daughter-in-law, Susan.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Presbyterian Church, 300 George St., Fredericksburg. The family will receive guests in the church house, next door to the sanctuary, directly after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Highland Heights UMC in her memory.
