Shirley Mae Morris

Shirley Mae Morris, first daughter, but not the first born, of Bessie Mae Morris, biological father unknown. She was born Feb. 15, 1951 and departed this life on Friday, March 29, 2013.

Shirley is survived by three sons, Frederick Morris, Elton Morris, and Charles Morris; a daughter, Tara Morris; two daughters-in-law, Sherry Morris and Shefon Morris; nine grandchildren; and six brothers. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

The fifth child among 13 siblings, Shirley was taken from her mother along with other siblings at age 4 and raised by loving foster parents who took her in as their own and instilled in her God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

She graduated from Fairfax County high schools and studied nursing, earning her certificate. After raising her children, she worked as a housekeeper at Ramada Inn, later working at Woodmont Healthcare Center in the field of study she loved.

She raised her children into complete adults and cherished her grandchildren. Frederick, Tara, Elton and Charles were her heart and soul.

She loved her brothers and sisters, William Pointdexter, Thomas Morris, Charles Ward, Alton Morris, Sheila Gaddy, Ron Morris, Ray Morris, James Terry, Steven Gaddy, Michael Morris, Donnell Cook, James Cook and a sister she never met.

She was brought up in Burke, Va., in Fairfax County, with Christian parents, Mr. & Mrs. Honesty, who reunited her with her mother at age 20 and never left her side again. She is also survived by one aunt, Dora Todd; one uncle, Butch; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Lawrence A. Davies officiating.

Shirley Mae Morris, you were a good mother, a wonderful sister and a great friend. You are forever loved and missed, will never be forgotten. Rest in peace with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and God our Heavenly Father.
