Carrie Pugh Webb, 94, of Orange County died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Dogwood Village in Orange.
Born March 28, 1919, in Orange, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Neal and Mamie Cluff Pugh. Her husband was the late Thomas Carlton "Tex" Webb. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Helen Neal, Jane Brown and Peggy Schmick; and a brother, Joe Pugh.
Carrie was a longtime member of Orange Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Kersey Circle.
She loved children and always wanted to be a teacher, so she taught children in nursery to beginners Sunday school for more than 50 years. She read to the kindergarten classes at Orange Elementary School and to the children at Dogwood Village Day Care. She was a volunteer at Dogwood Village of Orange for many years before becoming a resident herself.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Rogers of Orange and Jean Britt and husband Bob of Rocky Mount, N.C.; son John Webb and wife Evelyn of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; brother Fred Pugh and wife Emma of Orange; two sisters, Betty Schmick and husband Vic of Sandston and Alice Lumsden and husband Roy of Orange; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday, June 12, at Orange Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Graham Cemetery. Pastor Rick Clore will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the service.
