Jean M. Newcomer

Jean Marie "Mama Jean" Newcomer, 79, of Stafford County passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at her home.

Mama Jean was a life member of American Legion Post 290 Ladies Auxiliary, where she enjoyed being with her friends at the legion, assisting them in volunteer work and helping with Bingo. She loved spending time with friends and family at home.

Survivors include her daughters, Debra Cheek and husband Ron and Trinity Newcomer; grandchildren Chad Garnett and Taylor Hitt and wife Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Kaden Anderson Hitt and Kaylee Hitt; sisters Joan Green and husband Glenroy and Betty Lee Hinkle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Anderson "Bill" Newcomer; her brothers, John E. "Bluebird," James A. "Shotgun," and Charles J. "Pee Wee" Toombs; and a sister, Hilda Blakley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with American Legion Post 290 Auxiliary performing a memorial service at 7 p.m. Post 290 honorary color guard will be present.

A service will be held at noon Saturday, June 22, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chad Garnett, Jimmie Blakley, Glenroy Green, Doug Hutchinson, Van Snellings, and Rich Yungwirth. Honorary pallbearer will be Logan Snellings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, 8300 Greensboro Drive, Suite 800, McLean, VA 22102.
