Ella B. Settle

Ella Blake Settle, 93, of Berea in Stafford County passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at Carriage Hill Health and Rehab Center.

She was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Settle; her parents, Eddie Blake Sr. and Callye Blake; and a sister-in-law, Gerri Blake.

Ella was a proud graduate of Mary Washington College, class of 1939. She taught business education at Stafford High School during the 1950s. She was later employed as a secretary at the Marine Corps Schools at Quantico and retired as a librarian from Breckinridge Library there after 20 years. She was a member and Sunday school teacher for many years at Berea Baptist Church, here she established the church library. In retirement, she especially enjoyed reading, art and travel.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen Chartters and her husband, Roger; two grandsons, Chance Chartters of Fredericksburg and Stephen Chartters and his wife, Annette; and three great-grandsons, Matthew, Daniel and Jacob Chartters, all of Chester. Also surviving are her brother, Eddie Blake Jr.; two nephews, Scott Blake of Fredericksburg and Stewart Blake and his wife, LaDonn of Bennett, Colo.; and great-nieces Michelle Raithel, Courtney Gillocks and Katelyn Blake.

A service will be held at noon Friday, July 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Berea Baptist Church, 28 Fleet Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406; or to a favorite charity.
