Dorothy F. Toombs

Dorothy Farmer Toombs, 93, widow of Johnson Toombs, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.

She was the daughter of the late Ervin and "Dollie" Farmer. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Ervin Davis Farmer.

A native of Bowling Green, Mrs. Toombs graduated from Lee Maury High School and Smithdeal-Massey Business College. For 28 years, she was deputy clerk of Caroline County's Circuit Court.

Mrs. Toombs was a lifelong member of Bowling Green Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities including church clerk, Sunday school teacher and Woman's Missionary Union officer. She was also a member of the Scotchtown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A charter member of Caroline Chapter 174 Order of the Eastern Star, Mrs. Toombs served as worthy matron twice. She also served as the first secretary of the chapter and held the station of organist for many years. Other special interests were Friends of the Caroline Library, Fredericksburg Area Legal Secretaries Association and Caroline Music Club.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Rand Forder; her son and daughter-in-law, Davis and Mary Toombs; four grandchildren, Brad Forder, Elizabeth Forder, Sara Berger (Malik) and Michael Toombs; four great-grandchildren, Tavi, Zayda and Asha Berger and Levi Toombs; and two brothers, Judge J. Peyton Farmer (Jean) and H. Randolph Farmer (Marian).

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with an Eastern Star meeting at 7 p.m. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Bowling Green Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery.
