Donald Decker

Donald Decker, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at his home in Abilene, Texas. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1927 to Arthur W. and Matilda Decker, he lived most of his life in Fredericksburg, Va., and in Florida.

Don was a U.S. Marine, who served proudly for 21 years and retired in 1966. He went on to manage the three local Kentucky Fried Chicken units in Fredericksburg with great success until he retired to Florida in 1982.

In Fredericksburg, Don served on the Board of Directors and as president of the Chamber of Commerce as well as chairman of the Travel & Tourism Committee. He was also very active in the local community as a member of the Elks Club, the Scottish Rite Masonic Body, Knights of Pythius, the Lions Club and as president of the Fredericksburg Shrine Club.

For more than half a century, Don was an extremely loving husband to his wife, Chrisalie Verona. She passed away in November of 2001 and at that time Don said of her: "During the 50, years 11 months and 15 days of our marriage she stood by me, supported me, worked with me. In times of sorrow, happiness, success and failure she accepted life as it came to us. She has been equally protective and supportive of our children and is the main reason for our success." They are together again.

He was a proud father to his daughters, Karen, Janice, Catherine and Elizabeth, and his sons, Mark, Paul and Donald. For his children, Don lived his life as a constant example that everyone deserves patience, compassion and respect. He treated everyone that way. Don has nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his twin brother, Dale, of Stockton California.

A family service was held at his home in Abilene, Texas.
