There is an error in the recent editorial "Ghost riders" that needs to be corrected.
Central Virginia Battlefields Trust (CVBT) is our local battlefield preservation organization, and we did indeed help to preserve the hallowed ground of Fleetwood Hill at Brandy Station by acquiring a $700,000 grant that was used toward the purchase price.
But it was the Civil War Trust (CWT), the most effective national preservation organization in existence, that was primarily responsible for raising the $3.6 million purchase price and seeing the deal through to fruition.
The folks of CWT (and Bud Hall, whose efforts over the years have made him the true "Savior of Brandy Station") were the real reasons this land was preserved, and all of us involved with CVBT (and indeed all of us who understand what this land means to us and to our country) owe them our deepest and most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude.
