Henry E. Walls

Henry Ernest Walls Sr., 95, of Richmond entered into eternal rest Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the home of his daughter.

He was born on July 4, 1918, in Richmond, the son of the late Henry O. Walls and Lucille Kirby Walls. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Gladys R. Davis Walls.

Henry retired in 1979 from the DuPont plant in Richmond after 40 years of service. In 1954, he co-founded the Little Appliance Co., where he sold and repaired appliances for 30 years along with his shift work. Family and friends will remember Henry as a kind and gentle man who was good with his hands and could repair just about anything.

In 1970, Henry and Gladys built their river home at Coles Point so that family and friends could share their passion for the "river life." All will remember the fun days of fishing, swimming, skiing and steaming crabs.

He was a member of Montrose Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, spending many hours volunteering his time there. He took care of the grounds, provided appliances and kept them working and helped with the general maintenance of the church facility.

In 1996, Henry and Gladys moved to the Masonic Home of Virginia. After Gladys' passing in 1998, Henry remained at the home until his health no longer permitted it, and he moved to his daughter's home.

Henry was a member of Thomas N. Davis Lodge 351, Varina Lodge 272 and Montrose Chapter 176, O.E.S. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a proud member of the American Legion.

Henry is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Finch and her husband, Bob; son Ernie Walls Jr. and his wife, Patty; grandchildren Kevin Sanders and his wife, Donna, Randy Sanders, Cindy Walls DiCello and her husband, Lou, Kim Sanders Raat and her husband, Dean, Julie Walls Keen and her husband, Scott, and Linda Finch; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Christopher, Katheryn, Jackson and Isabel.

A visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Billups Funeral Home in Richmond, with Eastern Star and Masonic services at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Montrose Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary Washington Healthcare, Hospice, Mary Washington Hospital Foundation, 2600 Mary Washington Blvd., Fredericksburg, VA 22401; or a local SPCA.
