Carole S. Breon

Carole S. Breon, 77, of Spotsylvania County passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at her home.

Born in Lewistown, Pa., in 1936 to A. Ray and Evelyn Wertz, she lived most of her adult life as a military spouse, with her remaining years in Newport News and Fredericksburg. She was passionate about her family, her music, her church, her lifelong friends and her beloved Scottish terrier, Muffy. She was a talented operatic singer, winning a scholarship to Juilliard, a recording contract and an invitation to join the Metropolitan Opera after winning Miss Preliminary Pennsylvania in 1954. Over her lifetime, Carole was a member of many organizations and clubs, including the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy E. Breon; and brother Larry R. Wertz.

Survivors include her children, Robyn Lee Breon Fuller (Robert), Scott A. Breon (Laurie) and Jennie R. Breon; brother Dennis A. Wertz (Mary Jo); grandchildren Jason Edwards (Sarah), Heather Collins (Jonathan), Dustin and Tyler Breon, and Nathan and Patrick Edwards; and great-grandchildren Jordan Edwards, Kaiya Edwards, Josiah Collins and Alivia Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions made in her name to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Ste. 100, Richmond, VA 23226; to the American Heart Association, Memorials Processing Center, Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058; or to the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, 1742 E. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23228.
