Angela Sgarlata, 82, of Fredericksburg died peacefully Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at her home.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Feb. 18, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose DeLucia. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Ralph Sgarlata; a son, John Sgarlata and his wife, Nancy, of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, John Sgarlata Jr. and his wife, Amanda, and Sarah Sgarlata, several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Frank Scaduto; and sister-in-law Jean DeLucia. She was also predeceased by her sisters Rose Turiano and Daisy Scaduto, and brother Sandy DeLucia.
Angela's family was devoted to her, and she in turn was devoted to them. Her eyes sparkled when she or anyone mentioned her grandchildren, John and Sarah, the two highlights of her life. Angela was a kind and gentle soul, a giver, finding great pleasure in surprising people whether it was with a homemade pot of soup or with a single rose. She spent countless hours knitting and crocheting with much perfection: sweaters, shawls, baby outfits, tiny coats, jackets and hats for family and friends.
Angela and Ralph, with their son John and his family, enjoyed many happy times together. John, Nancy and Ralph were by her side while in hospice care, as were John Jr., Amanda and Sarah.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Faith Baptist Church. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation at alzfdn.org.
