Joseph J. Tucker

Joseph Jude Tucker, 51, a former resident of Falmouth, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

Joseph was born in Oakland, Calif., and grew up in Pascagoula, Miss. He graduated from the University of Dallas.

After working several years in landscaping, Joseph returned to the classroom, earning a master's degree as a vocational rehabilitation counselor from Medical College of Virginia. He worked for the Veterans Administration in Portland, Ore., for three years. He was then transferred to the Veterans Administration office in Washington, D.C.

While in Portland, he became dedicated to Latin or Tridentine Mass singing in the schola. On returning to the East Coast he soon found a Mass with the Gregorian chant that he loved. When other interests crowded out the rehearsal time he dropped out of the schola, yet it remained in his heart.

In response to Joseph's wishes, his funeral Mass was in Latin according to the Tridentine rite. The Mass was celebrated at Old St. Mary's (Saint Mary Mother of God) church in Washington, D.C. A schola of five men sang the Gregorian chant and the church was filled by Joseph's many friends.

Survivors include his mother, Jean Parker; brother Thomas Tucker and wife Deborah; and beloved nephew, Neil Tucker.

There were so many friends who did so much to help through the last month of Joseph's life; it would be impossible to name them all, but the family offers special thanks to Mike, Max and Hannah.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fredericksburg. The Mass will be offered by Father Keith Cummings.
