Norval Stephens

Norval "Steve" Stephens, 80, of Stafford County passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013.

Steve was born on Oct. 24, 1932, in Burbank, Calif., spent his high school years in Salem, Ark., and moved to the Washington, D.C., area after high school to study microbiology at the University of Maryland.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and spent most of his civilian career in real estate. He was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Stafford, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, studying the Bible, gardening and fishing.

Steve was married to the love of his life, Evelyn "Eve" Stephens, for 32 years, and is survived by their blended family of seven children, Steven Scott Stephens and wife Heidi of Tampa, Fla., Lisa Zalovick of St. Leonard, Md., Lee Stephens and wife Wendy of Malvern, Ark., Randy Stephens of St. Petersburg, Fla., Karen Burnett of McLean, Trina Ash and husband Michael of Stafford, and son David Stowe of Stafford; 13 grandchildren, Gary and Brittany Zalovick, Kelly Betthauser and husband Dustin, Samantha and Eric Stephens, Billy and wife Mary, Christina, Jesse and Faith Stephens, Justin Ash, Jennifer Turner and Ashley and Brendan Burnett; six great-grandchildren, Zachary Zalovick, Georgia Betthauser, Billy and Destiny Stephens and Kyleigh and Liam Turner.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel, 186 Shelton Shop Road, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery.
