Catherine B. Washington

Catherine Bundy Washington, 84, of Spotsylvania County died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Catherine was born on March 7, 1929, in Tappahannock, to the late Julia Jones and stepfather Henry Woodfork. She was raised by her aunt Mamie Cashwell and grew up in Washington, D.C.

She worked as a beautician for several years before becoming a homemaker. She was most widely known for providing child care to children for more than 50 years when she became affectionately known as "Nana."

Catherine met and married her first husband, Louis Bundy, early in life. They married in 1948 and settled in Fredericksburg. Together they raised five daughters. They were active members of First Union Baptist Church for many years. Louis and Catherine were married for 50 years before Louis was called home to be with the Lord in 1998.

After a few years, she married George L. Washington of Woodford, on July 12, 2003. A while later, she became a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Woodford.

She is survived by George; her four daughters, Sherry Knights (Andy), Helene Watts (Lloyd), Katrina Boxley (Gary) and Tonya Lacey (Tremayne); eight grandsons: Aaron, Darrian, Linwood, Devon, Gary, Evan, Louis and Justin; a granddaughter, Brooke; two step-granddaughters, Ashley and Tatrisila; one stepson, Charles; one aunt, Elinora Shields; one sister-in-law, Lucy Bundy; one brother-in-law, Lindburgh Bundy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her first daughter, Joy, preceded her death, as well as a newborn son, Louis Bundy Jr.

She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her and her warm and nurturing spirit.

Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at Long Branch Baptist Church, Woodford, with interment in First Union Baptist Church cemetery, Rexburg.
