Nancy Bullock Napier

Nancy Bullock Napier, 78, of Caroline County passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1935, in what is now Fort A. P. Hill to Robert A. and Julia Durrett Bullock. Nancy was a 1954 graduate of C.T. Smith High School and was a key member of the undefeated girls basketball teams. She also was an accomplished softball player and played competitively into her 50s.

She was elected and served as Caroline County's Commissioner of the Revenue from 1988 to 2000. Nancy was passionate about serving her community. She served on the Board of Caroline County Chamber of Commerce, she was a past president of the local Democratic Party, she served as treasurer of the Friends of the Ladysmith Branch of the Caroline Library and was instrumental in the building of the library in Ladysmith Village and she was a longtime member of County Line Baptist Church. Of all of her accomplishments, she was most proud of being a mom and grandmother.

She was the widow of Thomas N. Napier Sr. Survivors include her children, Lorraine Henicheck (Jack), Thomas Napier (Debbie), David Napier (Kim) and Julia Custer (Phil); five grandchildren, Jessica Napier, Jacob Henicheck, Hunter Napier, Andrew Napier and Grey Lyttle; and a sister, Alma Carter.

The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Ladysmith Library, 7199 Clara Smith St., Ruther Glen, VA 22546.
