Donnie Johnston's Dec. 6 rant regarding "grizzled guys on motorcycles" who honor veterans at graveside services is a disrespectful slap in the face to all veterans, their families and those still serving [Is Dec. 7 still a date which lives in infamy?"].
I have personally participated in several Patriot Guard Rider missions that honor and respect fallen veterans and their families. Every time I have participated, our presence was not only appreciated by the family members, it was welcomed with open arms and heartfelt thanks.
Within the last two years, I have lost both my father and my father-in-law. Both were World War II veterans. Both times, I requested a Patriot Guard Rider escort, and both times the PGR came en masse to honor and respect these men who served their country when others did not.
Similar missions are held every day across the country. Perhaps Mr. Johnston should visit Arlington National Cemetery someday to witness a PGR mission. While there, he can experience what it's like to honor and respect those who have died in defense of the freedoms that we enjoy today in this country.
