Frances A. McCord

Frances Ann McCord, 75, lost her battle with cancer on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at her home in Fredericksburg. Frances was born on July 19, 1938, in Rappahannock County to Walter W. Estes and Anna L. Cubbage.

Frances was chief of the payroll department for D.C. Department of Corrections; she retired in 2002 after 20 years of service. She married Clyde McCord in 1981 in Fredericksburg. They were happily married for 32 years. Frances was an active member of Spotswood Baptist Church.

Frances was preceded in death by her father, Walter Estes; mother Anna Cubbage; sister Catherine Utz; brother Tommy Estes; stepfather Louie Cubbage; and stepmother Peggy Estes.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde McCord of Fredericksburg; her daughters, Wanda Lee (Ronald Carpenter) of Madison and Robin Hitt (Roland Minner) of Culpeper; her sons, Matthew McCord (Margee) of Rhoadesville and Eric McCord (Liz) of Montross; her brothers, Richard Estes (Maggie) of Maryland, Gary Estes (Mary Ann) of Maryland, Tommy Cubbage (Carolyn) of Culpeper; uncle Dudley Richards of Delaware; and aunt Delize Williams of North Carolina. She also had 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and numerous close friends and church members.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Spotswood Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Park. The family will greet friends after the burial at Spotswood Baptist Church; there will be dinner for anyone who would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Spotswood Baptist Church, 4009 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
