Community gave Christmas to families

Date published: 12/27/2013

If Christmas joy was limited to the number of hugs, smiles and tears of joy that a person was allowed to receive, then the Christmas season of S.E.R.V.E.'s staff and incredible volunteers would be over already.

The three days shortly before Christmas were an emotional roller coaster. We had the opportunity to share in the life stories of many families in need, then bless them with the gifts and donations that you, the community, provided.

We told each family that it was given "just for them," and it was. We helped 215 families with toys (Toys for Tots); knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, blankets, etc. (From the Heart); and gave gifts to senior citizens (Home Instead) and teenagers in the community. God is good!

The holiday season is very hard in the nonprofit world, but when it comes to joys and partaking in the spirit of Christmas, S.E.R.V.E. was the place to be! Many senior citizens would not have received a gift if it weren't for your support of "Santa to a Senior."

A mother of four fell to her knees in joy when she found out that her two teenagers were going to be receiving $100 in gift cards and gifts.

There was another mother who was overwhelmed with the food box, toys and teen gifts; when I told her that her teens were also getting $75 each in gift cards, she looked like she might pass out. It was awesome to be in the presence of such a humble and grateful lady.

Thank you all so much! I can sincerely say that you made a difference in these families' lives. Many of them will never forget the Christmas that they were cared about by so many.
