Phyllis M. Belsky

Phyllis Margaret Belsky passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in Miami, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Charles Belsky, and her parents, David and Mary Saunders.

Phyllis was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Aberdare, Wales. She attended college in the United Kingdom and taught primary school in Bristol, England, during World War II. There she volunteered for fire watch duty. During the Battle of Britain, she observed and recorded an after-action report of an aerial combat. She met her husband in Bristol while he was stationed there with the Army 654th Engineers. They were married in Bristol on March 15, 1944.

Phyllis leaves behind her children, Margaret Pumphrey of Chapel Hill, N.C., Carol Greaser (Mike) of Mechanicsville and David Belsky (Gina) of Miami; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Idris, of Oxford, England; and several nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered fondly for her ability to spread joy to others and her sincere devotion to God.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Corinth United Methodist Church, 23 W. Williamsburg Road, Sandston, VA 23150, with a luncheon following the service in the social hall. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Quantico.
