Donald A. Noon

Donald Alfred Noon, 87, of Spotsylvania County passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, of complications from Alzheimer's.

He was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to William and Veronica Noon.

Don proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific theater as a signalman in the U.S. Navy. After the war, Don attended Oregon State University, where he received a degree in chemical engineering. He then worked for several companies before starting his own general contracting company in North Virginia. He was essentially a self-made man with a strong work ethic.

He enjoyed sailing, skiing, piloting small aircraft, traveling and golf. In 1996, after retirement, he moved to Fawn Lake, where he made many new friends, earned the nickname "Senator" and thoroughly enjoyed the good life.

He was loved by his family and friends. His impish grin and the twinkle in his eye will forever be missed.

Don is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan Kay Noon; his children, Douglas Noon, Jody Noon and James Noon; stepchildren Mark Snead and Sally Snead; grandchildren Rebecca Noon, Benjamin Anderson, Abigail Noon, Brigit Noon, Peter Noon and Bryan Payton; stepgrandchildren Sam and Emma Snead; and a sister, Patricia Cass.

There will be a memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2217 Princess Anne St., Suite 106F1, Fredericksburg VA 22401.
