James M. Perryman Jr.

James Marvin Perryman Jr., a retired colonel, 80, of Haymarket died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.

He was a native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, class of 1955. He served three tours in Vietnam as a Marine Helicopter pilot. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, two Legion of Merit Awards and numerous other citations and commendations throughout his career. He served as commanding officer of HMX1 for President Nixon from 1972-1974.

He retired from the Marine Corps in 1979, and was employed as a project manager for Advanced Technology Inc. and Northrop-Grumman Corp.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances I. Perryman; two sons, Jeffrey W. Perryman and Glenn A. Perryman; two daughters-in-law; one granddaughter; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.

In lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project at woundedwarriorproject .org.
