Eugene L. Featherall

Eugene Louis Featherall Sr., 89, of Spotsylvania County passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

He was born on March 23, 1924, in Mayfield, Pa.

He is survived by nine children, Barbara Hanlin, Ellie Beard, Marcie McIntyre, Frannie Parr, Toni Bennett, Eugene Featherall Jr., Mary Lewis Todd, Sue Pusinskas and Janet Woolfrey; a sister, Ann Daley; 15 grandchildren, Tom Cook, Mimi Beard-Shimmin, Keith Featherall, Chris Germaine, Sally Dickinson, Keith Parr, Steve Hall, Rainy Clymer, Angela Lewis, Jennifer Lewis, Adam Todd, Peter Pusinskas, Zach Pusinskas, Teresa Conley and James Woolfrey Jr.; seven stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruby Featherall; his mother, Mary Grace Featherall; his father, Ralph Santos Featherall; a daughter, Kaye Featherall; 11 sisters and brothers, Mary Laboranti, Kay Molinaro, Tony Featherall, Joe Featherall, Thomas Featherall, Antoinette Coggins, Ralph J. Featherall, Frances Fecina, Anthony Featherall, Eleanor Baker and Vincent Featherall; and one stepgranddaughter, Jessica Parr.

Gene, as he was widely known, married the love of his life, Ruby Windsor, and raised 10 children with her. They were married for 62 years, until her death in 2006.

He served his country as a U.S. Marine in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was also a musician, playing the trombone in the U.S. Army Band while serving in the Army Reserves.

He became a successful air-conditioning contractor and master mechanic, opening and running his own company, A&R Refrigeration, for more than 30 years. He will be missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A private burial will be held at a later date.
