ADHD shouldn't be used to hurl insults

I am writing in response to the letter from David Green titled "I'm amazed at what Dems get away with" [Dec. 29]. I am not commenting on his political views, but rather the inappropriate and offensive way he used the medical term ADHD as a way to describe the current presidential administration whom he painted as "dysfunctional and liars."

As a special education teacher and the parent of a child with ADHD, I feel strongly that a response is warranted. ADHD is a neurobiological medical condition that impacts an individual's executive functioning and often results in difficulties in school, relationships and emotional wellbeing.

ADHD is not a joke and not something that should be used as an insult.
