Reuben Garnett Brooks, 91, of Bowling Green passed away peacefully at home with his family and care providers at his side on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014.
Born July 11, 1922, in Woodford, he was the son of Joseph Edward and Annie Brooks.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty Cwiklinski; two sons, William Bowie Brooks and Reuben G. Brooks Jr.; a sister, Ruth Tomichek; and grandsons Robert Brooks, Chris Gentry and Allen Chewning.
Garnett served the citizens of Caroline County as sheriff for 17 years, from 1947 to 1964, and served the citizens of the state of Virginia as an investigator at the Department of Commerce for 19 years, from 1964 to 1983.
Garnett is a proud Noble of the Mystic Shrine ACCA Temple of Richmond and Brother of the 32 Degree of the Scottish Rite. He served as president of the Caroline County Republican Committee and was a member of Woodmen of the World.
He was a loving husband of 48 years to his wife, Gloria H. Brooks, who preceded him in death. He was a devoted father and dedicated community servant and will be missed and remembered by all who knew him as a strong, caring, compassionate individual.
A memorial service, with Masonic rites, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
