John M. Allison

John M. Allison, 82, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Allison was born in Emmerton, Va., on Nov. 7, 1931. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, honorably served in the Korean War and retired after 29 years of service. Not ready to "retire," John worked for another 28 years for local area companies, including VSI, Fredericksburg Auto Auction and Kings Dominion. He remained a member of Jerusalem Baptist church in Emmerton, and enjoyed singing, dancing and traveling to visit friends and family.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean M. Allison; three daughters, Joanne McDaniel (Mike), Judy King (Dana) and Jacqui Arnold (Larry); grandchildren Laura Beauchemin (Michael), Lindsey Griswold (Josh), Jennifer Downs (Brodie) and Muriah Newland; two great-grandchildren, Adalynn Griswold and Ethan Beauchemin; brothers James F. Allison and William Allison (Ann); and former son-in-law Boogie Newland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery.
