Arthur Abraham Hewitt, 85, of Spotsylvania County died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Hewitt was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Harry and Florence Adams Hurwitz.
After completing his degree in commercial art at New York State University, Mr. Hewitt established a successful business producing advertising layouts for small business clients in the New York City area. Building upon this experience, he later obtained employment with the Department of the Army and moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where he worked in several locations as a graphic designer. He culminated his career at the Pentagon, where he produced classified briefings for all of the military departments and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In this role, he received numerous awards for exceptional work products and outstanding customer service.
In addition to his love for art, Mr. Hewitt enjoyed sailing and tennis in his spare time. He also loved to sing and dance and spend time with his friends.
Mr. Hewitt is survived by his cousin, Anita (Arthur) Avrutin Becker; nephews Robert Persky (Diane) and John Persky (Traci); niece Marci Persky-Kloiber (Frank); and his longtime friends, Trish Jurta and Richard and Rosa Lowell.
Mr. Hewitt was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hewitt, and his sister, Lillian Hurwitz.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Laurel Hill Memorial Park State Route 3, Spotsylvania, with the Rev. Ken Haugy officiating. Entombment will follow.
