Eugene "Gene" B. Healey Sr., 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
He was born on April 23, 1942, in Herkimer, N.Y.
Gene grew up in Ilion, N.Y., where he met his spouse, Judith K. Gregory Healey. They were united in marriage at the Church of the Annunciation, in Ilion, and were happily married for 49 years.
Gene was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, where he served as an altar boy for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Veronica Healey, also from Ilion.
After high school, Gene served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. He was skilled in communications and worked for New York Telephone, Bell South and, eventually, AT&T. As a systems engineer, he was assigned to Langley and the U.S. Department of State before retiring in 2006. In retirement, Gene also enjoyed working part time for Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.
During his free time, Gene enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially boating, and tinkering with his tools. He also loved playing with his grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his spouse, Judith of Sevierville, Tenn.; son Eugene Healey Jr. of Destin, Fla.; daughter Terri Robey of Stafford County; son Todd Healey (Pamela) of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Ronald Healey (Stella) of Ilion and Terry Healey (Sharon) of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister, Veronica Kuzio (Mike) of Clinton, N.Y.; his cherished grandchildren, Brandon Robey and Nathan, Skylar, Reece and Jamison Healey; and several loving nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association.
