Jeanette T. Green

Jeanette Turner Green, 83, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg.

She truly loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was a member of both Macedonia Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the usher board and the choir.

Jeanette was born on April 11, 1930, the eldest of 10 children, to the late Samuel Turner Sr. and Lillie K. Turner, and was preceded in death by siblings Samuel Turner Jr., Boyd Turner Sr., Virginia Reynolds, Dorothy Lomax, Mary Turner, Joyce Turner and Peggy Allen.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Green, with whom she had two children, Elwood Green and Audrey Daniel. She was later united with the late George D. Walker, with whom she had 10 children, Ronald, Trudell, George, Alvin, Beverly, William, Kevin, Sheryl, Lynn and Scott.

Jeanette was a hard worker all of her life, giving her best whatever the task. She served in many capacities, including working at Tidewater Veneer Plant, the FMC plant and Marine Corps Base Quantico.

In her early years, she was a midwife working alongside her "Granny Emma" birthing many children in the area. In her later years, she took care of others as a private duty caregiver. Caring for others was her passion. She loved people, but most of all she loved her family.

She was richly blessed with a devoted and loving family. Many will cherish her memory, including 12 children; two loving sisters, Lottie Armstead and Emma Woolfolk; 27 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; five daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, with a viewing one hour prior to the service, at Macedonia Community Church in Woodford.
