Ellamae H. Clare

Ellamae Hunt "Nannie" Clare, 91, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.

She was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Newport News to the late Charles and Edith Hofferberth Hunt.

Ellamae was employed for 33 years as a chief deputy clerk of King George County and resided in the county for more than 70 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. After retirement, she enjoyed her longtime hobbies related to cooking, sewing and flowers.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Michael Clare.

She is survived by her beloved children, Edythe "Pete" Worrell, Sandra Glancy (Paul) and Lynne Newman (Ken); brother Charles Hunt of Uniontown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Michelle Doerr, Rebecca Lederer, Neil Glancy, Katherine Monahan, Peter Glancy, Matthew Glancy, Michael Newman and Jason Newman; 12 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Chad and Dee Baughman and their boys for their faithfulness in caring for our mom. They have been so much more than caregivers--they made her a part of their family. We will be forever grateful to them for opening up their home and hearts.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, where Ellamae volunteered; or to the National Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
