Mary Conway Coghill

Mary Louise Conway Coghill, 82, of Fredericksburg died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mary was born and raised in Sealston in King George County. She was a daughter of the late Fred Hunter and Columbus Gray Conway. She joined Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church at an early age. After marriage, she joined Long Branch Baptist Church and was a member of the Mass Choir until her health failed. She attended whenever she could and enjoyed and loved her pastor.

She worked as a nurses' aide at the old Riverside Convalescent Home for more than 20 years. She left her job to become a housewife and babysitter for her grandchildren, whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel W. Coghill; three brothers, Mitchell, Sidney and Lindsay Conway; and one sister, Alice Conway.

She is survived by one son, the Rev. George W. Coghill Sr. and wife Viola of Midland; and three daughters, Wanda Rollins and husband Donald of Spotsylvania County and Brenda Marbury and Pamela Coghill, both of Fredericksburg. Mary also leaves one sister, Rosa French and husband Frederick; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; hosts of nieces, nephews and cousins; two special nieces, Rosa Pugh and Michele Byrd; and two special nephews, Mitchell Conway and Taft Coghill Sr.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home and one hour before the service.

Her home-going celebration will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 17, at Long Branch Baptist Church, 14297 Long Branch Road, Woodford, VA 22580, with interment in the church cemetery.
