Terry L. Merrifield

Terry Lane Merrifield, 70, of Stafford County passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

Terry served in the U.S. Army as part of the military police, then became a D.C. Metropolitan police officer and later he became a White House police officer. Later he became an inspector with the U.S. Marshall Service.

After a distinguished 19-year career in law enforcement, Terry formed Merrifield Associates. In the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga., Merrifield Associates was retained by the USOC to provide counterfeit infringement enforcement. He also worked for AmeriChoice and United Health as a security manager.

Terry was a great example of what it means to live life to the fullest despite the obstacles life brought him. He was a fighter, he had a big and generous heart, and always giving of himself without looking for a return.

Terry was the beloved husband of Cheryl Fischer Merrifield; devoted father of Sandie (Dave) Bell; adored grandfather of Timothy, Ashton and Jessica Kaufman; dear brother of Danny (Sally) Merrifield, Tim McCormick and the late Joel McCormick; and many wonderful relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Dogwood, payable to: AnBryce Foundation, 1650 Tyson Blvd., Suite 900, McLean, VA 22102.
