Elizabeth B. Beane

Elizabeth Bright "Libby" Beane, 80, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in Fredericksburg.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James Golden Bright and Ensa Perkins Bright; her husband of 50 years, Thomas O. Beane; and three siblings, Flora Bright Baer, James Golden Bright Jr. and Winston Perkins Bright.

Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Helen Truluck of Asheville, N.C.; three children, Elizabeth "Betsy" Fowler of Hampton, Victoria Coogan of Roanoke and Samuel Beane of Fredericksburg; six grandchildren, Eric Fowler, Kate Fowler and Bryan Fowler of Richmond, Erin Coogan of Roanoke and Madeline Beane and Riley Beane of Fredericksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was born the youngest of five children on July 24, 1933, at the family home in Rutherford College, N.C. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and worked as a teacher full time and later as a substitute.

During her marriage, the family lived in Richmond, and then for 36 years in Manassas, where Thomas practiced law. The couple was active in civic life and were longtime members of Manassas Baptist Church.

The Beanes moved to Fredericksburg to be near their children in 2000 and joined St. George's Episcopal Church.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a natural caretaker and nurtured friends and family over the decades with wit, wisdom and grace. She will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, 4801 Jefferson Davis Highway.

Memorials may be made in her name to St. George's Episcopal Church, 905 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
