Juanita K. Gilpin

Juanita K. Gilpin, 89, of Colonial Beach died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Lynn Care in Front Royal.

She was the widow of Vernon T. Gilpin. Juanita was born Jan. 5, 1925, in New Albany, Ind., the daughter of the late Corwin and Irene Keach. She moved to Virginia in the 1950s and quickly made her reputation as a gifted seamstress. Her skills took her services to the White House for the Kennedys and Nixons and to many others in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., areas.

In the late 1970s, she retired and moved to Colonial Beach, where she was well-known for her friendliness and always being ready to give a helping hand. She belonged to Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and volunteered at their Opportunity Shop for many years. She also planned trips for the Friendship Club there.

When she reached heaven, she joyously met with her Lord and Savior; her parents; brother Jack Keach; sister Frieda Melcher; son Jackie Lee Tindle; and many other family members. She leaves behind two daughters, Phyllis Lawrence and husband Don of Las Cruces, N.M., and Linda Money and husband Bob of Round Rock, Texas; her caregiver and daughter-in-law Norma Tindle of Winchester; seven grandchildren, Don Lawrence of Manassas, H. Jack Lawrence of Richmond, Michael Money and wife Wendy of Stafford County, Chuck Money and wife Leslie of Austin, Texas, Carrie Rysdyke and husband Joe of Round Rock, Shelley Whittaker and husband Tim of Stephens City and William Jack Tindle of Winchester; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her many friends, especially Alice Oates and Hattie Bristow.

Her family is planning a get-together at a later date for a celebration of her life at Colonial Beach United Methodist Church.

Donations may be made in her memory to Colonial Beach United Methodist Women, 1 Washington Ave., Colonial Beach, VA 22443.
