V. Virginia Strotman

Verna Virginia Strotman, 96, of DeKalb, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.

She was born July 16, 1917, in Clarion County, Pa., the beloved daughter of Maurice and Bessie Ashbaugh Best. Virginia married Howard Ray Strotman on Sept. 9, 1939, in Medina, Ohio. The couple lived in Ohio, New York, Virginia, Georgia, Missouri and Illinois.

A homemaker, Virginia was tiny in stature, but mighty in spirit.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Tucker (John) of DeKalb, Kenneth Strotman (Joan) of Fredericksburg and Donald Strotman (LiaLa) of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren Brent, Brian, Chad, Greg, Neal and Jamie; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers Bill and Larry Best; and sisters June Repine and Betty McIntyre.

Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Ebenezer Church cemetery in Stafford County. Cremation is by Anderson Funeral Home Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
