Emily D. Minter

Emily D. Minter, 81, of Spotsylvania County passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

Emily was born on Dec. 26, 1932, to Henry and Lillian Hockaday Durette in Spotsylvania, where she was a lifelong resident. She married Joseph Minter in January 1953 in Spotsylvania.

Emily and Joseph were the owners and operators of Marye Grocery, in Spotsylvania, for many years. She was a faithful member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the Spotsylvania Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department.

Emily leaves behind four children, Paulette Minter, Danny Minter (Karen), Judy Luffman (Curtis) and Vicky Pickett (James); seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; four brothers; and seven sisters.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, with a service held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, both at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, with Pastors Clyde Coleman and Scott Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
