James D. Monroe Sr.

James Dewey "Jamie" Monroe Sr., 54, of Hartwood passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014.

Mr. Monroe was born March 14, 1959, in Fredericksburg to the late A.D. Monroe Jr. and Lou Ann Coleman Monroe. He was a lifelong resident of Hartwood and "the original good ole boy."

He is survived by his son, James Dewey Monroe Jr.; his mother, Lou Ann Monroe; his sisters, Susan Shackelford and her husband, Ray, of Stafford County and Janet Ott and her husband, Frank, of Fauquier; brother Joseph Monroe and his wife, Lisa, of Stafford; five nephews, Shannon Shackelford, Hunter Barnes, Tucker Barnes, Evan Monroe and Blake Monroe; niece Katy Mae Robertson and her husband, Austin; great-nephew Wyatt Robertson; and his uncle, J.T. Monroe of Spotsylvania County.

He graduated from Stafford High School in 1977. He had a farm and raised cattle and hay. He was a good mechanic and could fix almost anything. He owned heavy equipment and dump trucks and contracted with VDOT for several years. He did snow removal for the Stafford campus of UMW. He loved the river and partying and eating crabs with his friends. He liked NASCAR, country music, cowboy boots and hats. His best friend was a dog named Dante.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Beach, Robert Burton, Kenton Conley, Robbie Phipps, Mike Scoggins and Steve Tinsley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Richland Baptist Church cemetery.
